Getinge revolutionizes surgical lighting systems with fiber optic technology
Getinge will redefine surgical
illumination with the introduction of the world’s first
fiber-optic based surgical lighting system during the Association
of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) annual Congress in New
Orleans April 4-6.
The revolutionary FiberLuxÔ
surgical illumination system is designed to support a broad
spectrum of non-integrated lighting systems utilized in
today’s operating room. The multi-patent pending system is
based on an innovative external "light engine" and
advanced fiber-optic illumination for a wide variety of
illumination devices including traditional overhead surgical
lights, surgical headlights, endoscopes and lighted surgical
instruments.
Fiber-optic technology
incorporated into a surgical lighting system offers a wide range
of clinical advantages. The technology virtually eliminates all
radiant heat in the surgical field providing the surgical team
with a comfortable working environment and improving patient care
by minimizing the drying of delicate oeprative tissue. The
system’s optical design also provides the surgeon with
extraordinary focusability, shadow control, and brightness.
The world market for surgical
lights is 200 million USD of which the US market is 70 million
USD. The FiberLuxÔ is expected to obtain market shares both in
the Americas and the rest of the world.
The product will be available for
delivery early this autumn.
At the AORN conference Getinge
will also unveil a new surgical table – the Castle®
Fortis™ 600 – which can accommodate almost every type
of surgical procedure.
